At a glance about Yogyakarta Independent School (YIS), the first international school in Yogyakarta.

The history of Yogyakarta International Education Foundation (YIEF) was built in Yogyakarta at May 20, 1989 through Notarial Deed with a purpose to build and manage Yogyakarta International School (YIS). The first founder was lead by Professor Koesnadi, at that time officiate as the rector of Gadjah Mada University. While the first Executive Board consists of four co-founders: Brian Bedard, Tuti Lukman Soetrisno, Alan Cox and Malcolm Stark.

On August 24, 1989, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture published the single license to YIEF to launch and operate Yogyakarta International School in agreement of Rule Number 184 Β from August 23, 1975 related to international school.

In 2008, Rule Number 63 which currently published by Indonesian government to obliged all foundation in Indonesia renew their registration with Ministry of Law and Human Rights. For this purpose, notary public constitution published at September Β 20, 2013, and in May 16, 2014, YIEF registration renewed with Ministry of Law and Human Rights as a legal protection for Yogyakarta International School. In November 28, 2014, Ministry of Education and Culture published the four separated licenses to YIEF for each Early KindergartenΒ Education, Primary Education, Junior High School and Senior High School. According to the Ministry’s Instructions that every international schools in Indonesia has to erase the word ‘international’ from its name, the school then changed the name into Yogyakarta Independent School
